About Us

About Us

Opal Smith Elementary School is the sixth elementary campus in Crandall Independent School District, proudly located in the Heartland community. The school opened its doors in August 2023 to meet the needs of Crandall ISD’s rapidly expanding student population and to continue the district’s commitment to academic excellence, community connection, and student-centered learning.

Named in honor of Opal Smith, a devoted educator and trailblazer in the Crandall community, our campus reflects her enduring legacy of service, integrity, and dedication to children. Her name represents the heart of our mission—to nurture every learner, honor the past, and prepare students for a bright future.

Serving students in grades Pre-K through 5, Opal Smith Elementary offers a dynamic learning environment where each child is valued, supported, and challenged to grow. Our teachers are dedicated professionals who create engaging, standards-based instruction aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). We focus not only on strong academics, but also on character development, leadership, and the social-emotional well-being of every student.

At Opal Smith Elementary, we are proud to offer:

  • Full-day Pre-K and Kindergarten Readiness Programs

  • Special Education and Academic Intervention Support

  • Gifted & Talented and Enrichment Programs

  • Technology-Integrated Classrooms and Digital Learning

  • Art, Music, Physical Education, and STEM Exploration

  • Strong partnerships with families and the Heartland community

As the newest addition to Crandall ISD, Opal Smith Elementary was designed with collaboration, innovation, and community in mind. From flexible learning spaces to future-ready technology, every detail of our school is centered around helping students succeed.

We are proud to carry the Pirate tradition forward and serve as a hub of learning and connection for families in Heartland and beyond. Together, we are growing confident learners, kind leaders, and a strong school community—one student at a time.
